Registered, examined, recognised

A nursing qualification is worth what the regulator says it is worth. This page sets out which bodies the College is registered with, what each of them controls, and what that means for a graduate holding one of our qualifications.

Why this page exists

Check the registration before you pay the fee

Every year, students in Pakistan enrol at institutions that are not registered with the relevant council, complete two or four years of teaching, and then find they cannot sit the examination that would make the qualification count. The certificate is real. The licence behind it does not exist.

So check. Ask any college you are considering which bodies it is registered with, for which specific programs, and whether that registration is current. Ask us the same question. We would rather answer it than have you find out later.

Regulators

Who regulates what

Nursing

Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC)

The federal body that regulates nursing, midwifery and nursing-assistant education and practice in Pakistan. The PNC sets the curriculum, inspects and recognises institutions, and maintains the register that a nurse must be on in order to practise legally.

Registration with the PNC is what makes a nursing qualification a licence rather than a certificate. It is also what employers, and the councils in other countries, check first.

Examinations

Nursing Examination Board (NEB), Peshawar

The provincial board that conducts examinations and issues results for nursing and midwifery programs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The NEB sets the papers, runs the practical examinations, and issues the result notifications that lead to PNC registration.

Degrees

Khyber Medical University (KMU)

The public medical university in Peshawar that the College is affiliated with for its degree programs. KMU sets the degree curriculum, conducts university examinations, and awards the degree itself. Admission to KMU-affiliated degree programs generally runs through the KMU entry test.

Allied health

Faculty of Paramedical & Allied Health Sciences (FPAHS)

The body the College’s six allied health technology programs are registered with. FPAHS covers the paramedical and technology qualifications that sit outside the nursing register: laboratory, imaging, theatre, dental, anaesthesia and community health technology.

Pharmacy

Pharmacy Council of Pakistan

The regulator for pharmacy practice. The Pharmacy Category-B diploma is recognised by the Council, which is what allows a graduate to register for a Category-B medical store or pharmacy distribution licence.

Where to check

Verify it yourself

Each council publishes its own list of recognised institutions and programs. If anything on this page does not match what a council tells you, contact the College office and we will sort it out rather than leave you guessing.

What it means for you

What registration gets a graduate

🎓

A licence you can actually hold

Council registration is what turns a completed course into a qualification you can register and practise on. Without it, a nursing certificate does not let you work as a nurse.

🏛

Eligibility for government posts

Public sector nursing and allied health posts are advertised against council-registered qualifications and BPS grades. A qualification outside the register will not clear the eligibility screen.

📚

A route to further study

Master’s programs, and the MSN, MPH and MHPE pathways, require a recognised undergraduate qualification behind them. So does clinical instructorship.

🌎

A basis for overseas registration

Councils abroad, including the NMC in the UK and the boards behind NCLEX-RN, assess the qualification and the register it sits on. A recognised Pakistani qualification is where that assessment starts.

How the College keeps to the syllabus

Each program is mapped to the syllabus of the body that examines it, and internal assessment is set against the same learning outcomes as the council paper. Clinical rotations are logged against the hours and disciplines the syllabus requires, and attendance on the ward is recorded rather than assumed.

Where a council revises a curriculum, the College updates teaching for the intake that revision applies to. Students already partway through a program are taught and examined on the syllabus they enrolled under.

Student rights

What you are entitled to ask for

Any enrolled student can ask the College office for:

  • Confirmation of the registration status of their program
  • Their clinical placement log and recorded attendance
  • Their internal assessment marks
  • Confirmation of examination registration and entry
  • A statement of enrolment or a character certificate

Requests go through your program coordinator or Student Affairs.

Have a question about registration?

Ask before you enrol, not after. We will tell you which body examines the program you are considering and what the qualification lets you do.
